HIRING RANGE DOQ: $3,278.77-3,539.62 bi-weekly

JOB SUMMARY

The Fire Inspector provides emergency medical care, community risk reduction, and firefighting efforts in service to the protection of life and property. Develop and implement programmed efforts in education, enforcement, and investigation based on nationally recognized standards and national, state, and local legislation.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or GED certification with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the fire service or other public service field, secondary degree in engineering, construction management, industrial hygiene, or related field desirable; or any such combination of education, experience, and training as may be acceptable to the hiring authority. 

 

Must hold or be able to obtain certification by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), Pro Board, or certificates of test completion from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), or the International Code Council (ICC) to the following standards: NFPA 1031—Fire Inspector I within twelve (12) months of hire.

 

Must hold or be able to obtain current certification to NFPA 1031—Fire Inspector II and NFPA 1033—Fire Investigator within twenty-four (24) months of hire. Must be available for weekend standby duty (on call 24 hours) on a rotating basis.

 

Must possess or be able to obtain National Registry or South Dakota Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification within one year of hire.

 

Must possess, or be able to obtain prior to hire, a valid driver’s license.

 

Must be a nonsmoker.
