JOB SUMMARY  

The City of Sioux Falls, Division of Civic Analytics is helping to change how city departments interact with each other and enhance services that we provide to our residents.  How do we do this?  By collaborating with each other, our colleagues, and our community, we work together to streamline workflows and build connections between city departments. 

 

What is Civic Analytics?  At the City of Sioux Falls, we are the team that drives innovation and change by partnering and leading the way in the areas of data strategy, asset management, and GIS.   

 

This position provides critical support as we advance our organizational data strategy to support our city initiatives using data, analytics, evaluations, governance, policies, and standards.?Current and recent projects include:

  • supporting the mayor's community homelessness initiatives

  • risk modeling for fire prevention

  • providing operational visualizations and advanced analytics for public safety

  • and guiding the organization using our centralized enterprise asset management through the recent flooding event.  

 

Top candidates will be able to support the utilization of information as a critical asset for delivering equitable city services by collaborating across city departments, encouraging the use of data as evidence to help achieve better outcomes.   

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an undergraduate or graduate degree in geography geographic information systems (GIS) or data science with a minimum of five (5) years’ progressively responsible experience working in the GIS, EAMS, data science area; or any such combination of education, experience, and training as may be acceptable to the hiring authority.

Master’s degree is preferred.

Professional GIS certification is preferred.

Must be willing to work evenings, nights, or weekends in response to operational or emergency issues.

OUR COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS SUMMARY

  • Competitive salary with other public and industry positions, including step advancements.

  • The City participates in the South Dakota Retirement System. Employees receive a 6% match.  Additionally, employees may choose to enroll in a Deferred Compensation Plan.

  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance: Competitive rates for single, 2-party, and family. 

  • 11 paid holidays and 2 personal leave days each calendar year. 

  • New employees are granted 40 hours of vacation at time of hire and accrue an additional 2 weeks in their first year. 

  • Sick leave accrues over 96 hours per year.
